A consultant’s approach towards implementing Salesforce Revenue Cloud
Updated: Aug 13
Before we even dive deep into the technical solution let’s all understand the basic sales processes, and then we will try to associate each of them with the Salesforce Revenue Cloud offerings. Once we have understood that then we will dive into the “Implementation”, believe me the implementation is the easier bit as Salesforce is there to help you with that. The real challenge is understanding your current sales process and then categorizing them into the Salesforce RCA terminology or data model or processes. For example, we will start with Product Catalog Management, which is the first step in setting up the RCA in business terms.
Product Catalog Management
What do we mean by catalog in our day-to-day sales processes. A catalog is a product catalog which is like a shopping catalog or showroom. It contains every product and service that we intend to sell. If you cannot find a product in the catalog, then it cannot be quoted to sell to a customer.
Let’s imagine Toyota implementing Revenue Cloud. Their Product catalog may look like:
Toyota Product Catalog
Cars ├─> Corolla ├─> Camry ├─> Fortuner ├─> Innova
| Accessories ├─> Alloy Wheels ├─> Leather Seats ├─> Dash Camera ├─> Sunroof
| Services ├─> Extended Warranty ├─> Roadside Assistance ├─> Maintenance Package | Finance ├─> Loan ├─> Lease ├─> Balloon Finance
|
Everything the dealership can sell belongs inside the Product Catalog. Let’s imagine any Insurance company is implementing Revenue Cloud. Then the product catalog may look like:
Insurance Company catalog:
Motor Insurance Health Insurance Life Insurance Travel Insurance | Additional Products Roadside Assistance Zero Depreciation Cover Engine Protection Personal Accident Cover |
What Is the Product Catalog?
The single, governed system of record for everything a company sells
In Salesforce Revenue Cloud, the Product Catalog is the structured foundation that defines every product, service, and bundle a business offers — along with how those items are grouped, configured, and priced. It sits beneath CPQ, Billing, and Subscription Management, feeding every quote, order, and invoice.

Why Build a Product Catalog?
The business problems it is designed to solve

How the Catalog Is Built?
A five-stage process from taxonomy to launch

Under Product Catalog we have to ensure the underlying configurations have been thought through before the actual implementation, in the next series of articles we will go though each in details
